World Handicap System (WHS) Explained

The WHS, adopted globally in 2020, unified six previously separate handicap systems into one. The Handicap Index measures a player's demonstrated ability on any golf course worldwide and is calculated from your best score differentials, adjusted by a 0.96 "playing conditions" multiplier.

Score Differential Formula

Differential = (Gross Score βˆ’ Course Rating) Γ— 113 Γ· Slope Rating
A course rating of 72.1 means an expert player would shoot approximately 72.1 on that course in normal conditions. A slope of 113 is the baseline β€” higher slopes indicate harder courses for bogey golfers relative to scratch golfers.
