Swimming Pace Calculator | 100m Pace, Split Times & Lap Calculator
Calculate swimming pace per 100 meters or 100 yards, generate split times for any event distance, and estimate calorie burn based on stroke and weight. Supports 25m, 25-yard, and 50m pool lengths with a full lap-by-lap split table for competitive and fitness swimmers.
Understanding Swim Pace
Swimming pace is measured per 100 meters (or yards) β the standard unit used by competitive swimmers and coaches worldwide. For reference, recreational swimmers typically average 2:00β3:00 per 100m; competitive amateur swimmers aim for 1:20β1:45; and elite swimmers can sustain under 1:00 per 100m.
Common Swimming Distances
| Event / Race | Distance | Laps (25m pool) |
|---|---|---|
| Sprint triathlon (swim) | 750m | 30 laps |
| Olympic triathlon (swim) | 1,500m | 60 laps |
| Half-Ironman (swim) | 1.2 miles / 1,931m | 77 laps |
| Ironman (swim) | 2.4 miles / 3,862m | 154 laps |
| Open water 10km | 10,000m | 400 laps |
| Olympic 1500m free | 1,500m | 30 laps (50m pool) |
Stroke Effort Differences
Freestyle (front crawl) is the most efficient stroke and serves as the baseline for comparison. Backstroke is approximately 3% slower at the same effort; breaststroke requires about 25% more energy for the same pace; butterfly is the most demanding, requiring roughly 35% more energy than freestyle. Individual Medley (IM) averages these across all four strokes.
