Editorial policy
The standards every calculator page and guide on DigitHelm is written to.
Last updated October 21, 2026
Who writes the content
Pages and guides are written and reviewed by Anil Shah, who runs DigitHelm. Drafting may be assisted by software tools, but every page is checked against its sources and against the calculator's own output before it is published, and the author is responsible for what it says.
What a page must contain
- What the tool calculates and when you would use it.
- The exact formula or method, with every variable defined.
- Worked examples produced by the calculator's own engine, never typed in by hand.
- How to read the result, and the assumptions, limits and edge cases of the method.
- Sources for every threshold, constant or category boundary that is not basic arithmetic.
Sourcing
Preference goes to primary and official sources: standards bodies (NIST, BIPM, ISO), public health agencies (WHO, CDC, NIH), tax authorities (with the tax year stated), the original paper for a named equation, and established textbooks. Statistics are not quoted without a source, and nothing is presented as research that is not.
Health, money and legal topics
Health, tax and finance tools can influence real decisions, so they carry a short, specific caution next to the result, name the source of any cut-off they use, and avoid wording that sounds like a diagnosis or personal advice. DigitHelm does not publish dosing calculators.
Independence from advertising
The site is funded by display advertising. Advertisers have no say over which tools exist, how they calculate or what pages say, and there are no sponsored results or paid placements in calculators or guides.
Plain language
Pages are written to be understood by someone meeting the topic for the first time, with technical terms explained where they first appear. Claims are stated as precisely as the evidence allows, and uncertainty is stated rather than hidden.
Updates and corrections
Each page shows the date its content last changed, derived automatically from the page's own content rather than set by hand. Errors reported by readers are investigated against the sources; confirmed errors are corrected, covered by a new test, and recorded in the corrections log on the methodology page. To report a problem, use the contact page.
